Check your local newspaper as usually there is a section with both properties for sale and rental (houses and flats).

Word of mouth can be helpful. This is where your friends or relative might have heard of a place that available that you can rent

Estate Agencies

Letting agencies have a list of houses, flats and bed-sit that you can rent.

There are accommodation agencies that can help you find a place by matching landlords with tenants. They may charge a fee if they do find you somewhere to live that you decide is suitable and move in.

Always ask if there are any costs or admin fees from the start.

If you are asked for a fee in advance you should refuse, and contact Shelter Scotland to report this. It is illegal for agencies to charge a fee just for taking you onto their books.
