The UN Convention

Every single child in the world under the age of 18 has rights. It doesn’t matter who they are what race they are, where they live or what they believe in. The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child is an agreement between almost all of the countries in the world that protects these rights.

Simply put a convention is simply when countries agree to obey the same law.
The only countries that have not agreed to this convention are Somalia and the USA.

Under the Convention, children have the right to have their basic needs met, this includes:

*Survival
*Protection
*Healthcare
*Food and water

The convention also states that children have the right to opportunities to help them fulfill their potential, and in order to do this it includes:

* Good Education
* Access to Play Sports
* Be able to express their own opinions
* Be Involved in decisions that affect them.

People under the age of 18 need special care and protection that adults don’t. The convention states that all children have all these rights regardless of race, religion, abilities, whatever type of family they come from or what their opinions are. They are attached responsibilities with these rights however. Everyone, including adults, has the responsibility to ensure the way they behave doesn’t stop other people getting their rights.

It is the Governments responsibility to make these rights available to everyone and making sure that all parents and children know about and understand the convention. Adults and governments should work together to make sure all children get all their rights. All organizations concerned with children should work towards what is best for them.
