Domestic Abuse


What is domestic abuse? Domestic abuse is any behaviour directed by a partner or ex partner to the other that is abusive. This could be physical, sexual or psychological abuse and it can affect people in many different ways. The abuse can come in different forms aswell such as domination, control of a partner or punishment. Abusers will use a variety of ways to keep power over their partners whether its violence, money or emotional or psychological abuse.

    


The abuse can continue over a long period of time. Many people live with constant threat of domestic abuse in their lives. So if you are experiencing abuse you are definitely not alone. Getting Help It is often the case that the abuser will have threatened you to stop you from leaving or seeking help. It is extremely difficult to get out of an abusive situation. There are many things that could prevent you from leaving such as:

       · where will you end up?
       · worries about money
       · how you will cope by yourself
       · How it will affect your children

However, it is important to know that there is help out there! There is help available from people who understand what you are going through and who will not blame or judge you at all. They will give all the advice and support you need for you to make the right choice for you.
