Contraception

AKA Acting Responsible- Protection

It's worth taking the time to talk about whether you are ready to start a sexual relationship, and thinking through what the consequences might be. If you aren't ready then saying no is okay.
If you do decide that you are going to have sex, but are not ready to have a baby, you have to think about protecting yourself from unwanted pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections.
Don’t just rely on your partner to have thought about contraception, it makes sense for you to know the score. Some girls might worry they will be thought of as badly if they carry or make sure they have condoms or other types of contraception available, but this kind of mature thinking can show you being responsible and in charge of your own health; it also shows you care about your own as well as your partner’s overall health.

Where can I access contraception?

There are different methods to play it safe if you do decide to have sex. You can find out more about natural family planning methods, or get contraceptives such as the condom (male and female), the Pill, Mini-Pill and diaphragm free from your doctor or from local family planning clinics.

Condoms are FREE if you register with our C-Card registration scheme…..
See C Card Section below to find out more or visit us at Y Sort It 24 Kilbowie Road Clydebank
Or you can buy condoms (male and female) over the counter from chemists, supermarkets and various other shops.

How do I register?

You can go along to Y Sort-it during Drop In Times to register, the only information you will be asked to supply is the first part of your postcode and your date of birth. You will also have a chance to have a confidential and private chat about condom choice, sexual health or relationship issues, if you would find it helpful.

You will then be given your C Card which you will need to show at distribution sites before you will be given your free condoms. What happens once I've registered? You can go along to distribution points here at Y sort it, across West Dunbartonshire and even Glasgow. All you will need to do is show your C Card and choose your condom. What if I am under 16? The law says that you are not allowed to have sex under the age of 16. However, sometimes people start sexual relationships before this age, or might want to try out condoms on their own to see what they're like.

If you are under 16 you can still access confidential support or services on offer here at Y sort-it as long as workers believe that you are capable of understanding the information provided to you. You will have to have a chat with one of the workers here before you can get condoms. All staff are friendly and welcoming and will keep your confidentiality unless they think you are at risk of serious harm. They will always consult you before telling anyone else. If you are 13 or 14 you will be issued with a purple card and will be seen by a trained member of staff each time you attend for condoms to make sure you are still ok and that nothing has changed since your last visit If you have any questions about C-Card here at Y sort-it either send us a quick email or give us a call on 0141 941 3308.
